Electron Multiplying CCD (EMCCDs) as detectors for the WFIRST Coronagraph instrument
Abstract:
In this talk, Nathan will introduce the Electron Multiplying CCD in the context of the WFIRST Coronagraph, including the functionality of the detector with respect to planet and disk imaging. The steps taken to advance the maturity of the detector and harden it against the radiation environment of space are discussed. The talk will conclude with an outlook of the technology and potential improvements for future missions that will aim to match or exceed the sensor sensitivity set by CGI.
